I am really looking forward to the Folk Alliance International Folk Conference coming up in February in Kansas City Missouri. The theme is protest songs of social importance and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one left writing them!  Here's photos from a fun show at the 2016 Far West in Seattle:

Happy New Years!

I write to you on this, the last night of 2016. It has been a challenging year. Still a young democracy, it seems America has grown up a lot this year. Perhaps enough to realize the implications that decades of government policies have had on the rest of the planet. We’ve seen the rise of suspicion and intolerance in reaction to a lot of pent up frustration. My hope is that we will not fall prey to hate, greed and opportunism, regardless of how callous and popular it seems to be, and that a wave of empathy and tolerance will be sustained by the people of the world. For sure, we will all be out there fighting for what we believe in, but we must remember basic human respect for all people is the foundation of our government and what truly make this country great.

I wrote this song as a meditation and prayer awhile back, one New Years Eve when I was feeling down. I play it softly when I am feeling down, knowing that no matter how far you fall, redemption, friends, and the light is always there, it’s always up.

Enjoy the music and I hope to see more of you in 2017!

Peace,

Terry Okey

Let The Rain Come

Let the rain come, let it soak the things that I own,

let the dark clouds, cast a shadow over me,

worse times I’ve never seen,

but my eyes rinse clean, and I’ll see another storm,

Let the rain come. let it flood my cluttered days,

let the cold winds, blow the leaves from my soul,

worse times I’ve never seen,

but my eyes rinse clean, and I’ll see another storm,

I used to get so down, afraid that I might drown,

but in the end I found, the water is lifting me,

So let the rain come, let it wash a shambled life,

let those dark skies, block the sun from my life,

worse times I’ve never seen,

but my eyes rinse clean, and I’ll see another storm,

I used to get so down, afraid that I might drown,

but in the end I found the water is lifting me,
